แคว้นUmbria เป็นถิ่นที่ ผลิตไวน์ขาวได้ยอดเยี่ยมมาก
Umbria is best known for its white wines, particularly Orvieto, produced from the Trebbiano grape. Orvieto has sweet taste.
Another popular Umbrian white wine is a blend of Chardonnay with a small percentage of Grechetto, creating a uniquely Italian expression of this popular international blending grape. Other producers have taken to working with varietals such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc.
But as popular as these whites are, the two DOCGs are based on powerful red wines: Montefalco Sagrantino (the name refers to the town first, then the grape Sagrantino) has evolved from a tannic, austere wine to one of dependable complexity and age-worthiness that has well earned its superior labeling status. Montefalco Rosso is the DOC version, a step down in aging requirements, though both must contain a minimum 95% Sagrantino. There is also a fantastic passito dessert version.
As Sagrantino is to Montefalco, so is Sangiovese to the area surrounding Lake Trasimeno. The Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG is its companion based on Sangiovese, another wine that can age for decades. This wine is a blend of Sangiovese with 30% Canailo, with small percentages if Trebbiano, Ciliegiolo and/or Montepulciano. ~Amanda Schuster
