We were able to find an unambiguous solution to the question arising by carrying out an X-ray structural analysis which showed that the compound studied is the di(2-bromomethyl-5-hydroxy-4-isopropyl-carbamoyl-7,8-dimethoxy-1,2-dihydrooxazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium) ditribromide (4). The independent part of the unit cell of this compound occurs as the two molecules A and B which differ in several geometric parameters and carrying a positive charge, two Br3- anions, and a neutral bromine molecule and randomized in four positions with conformational population densities of 70:15:14:1%
