The model presented in this paper simulates timetables using a Monte Carlo approach.
Infrastructure and rolling stock is modelled at a macroscopic level while timetables and
perturbations have a more detailed representation. The dispatching algorithm applies a
rolling horizon approach to solve conflicts and can consider several trains when
estimating the impact of different dispatching decisions. It also takes into account the
consequence of each decision on the possibility of making good decisions at the next
station.
