In the respecified model, the paths from Commit to GPA and Encourage to Social were deleted. The path from Commit to Social was retained because both the p value (.079) and path coefficient (.18) were marginal and because of the importance of maintaining an indirect path to GPA. Based on the modification indexes, four addi tional parameters were imposed: (a) A correlation between the errors associated with relatives and reputation was added in that relatives encourage family members to attend a particular college may in part base their encouragement on the reputation of the school, (b) a correlation between the errors associated with role and program was added in that role models of students who might encourage them to attend a particular college may in part base their encouragement on the existence of special programs in the school, (c) a correlation between the error associated with writing with the error associated with intellect; and (d) a path from Efficacy to GPA was added in that students who have greater self-efficacy may very well perform well in academics. The respecified model is shown in Figure 19b.14
