At the onset of the rains in October of both years, land was prepared by manual
tillage, plots of 8 × 10 m were demarcated, and uniform propagules of cassava (Variety MU51) having a mean length of 30 ± 1.8 cm were established in an angular manner
(Onwueme and Charles 1994) at spacing of 80 × 90 cm. At planting, all plots received an equivalent of 60 kg phosphrous pentoxide (P2O5) and 120 kg potassium oxide (K2O) ha−1, followed by a top dressing of 50 kg K2O at 90 days.
