We use variable X 25 –Frequency of Eating from the restaurant database to illustrate the measures of central tendency ( Exhibit 11.1 ). Note that for this example we look first at the frequency distribution, which is the lower table. It is based on the 427 respondents who participated in the survey, including 13 responses that included some missing data on this question. Respondents used a 5-point scale, with 1 Very Infrequently, 2 Somewhat Infrequently, 3 Occasionally, 4 Somewhat Frequently, and 5 Very Frequently. The
numbers in the Percent column are calculated using the total sample size of 427, while the numbers in the Valid % and Cumulative % columns are calculated using the total sample size minus the number of missing responses to this question (427 13 414).
