Sub-standard building practices are being blamed for two separate building collapses in India in which at least 27 people have been killed.
Rescue workers spent Sunday night searching for people trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building in the southern city of Chennai, in Tamil Nadu.
At least 17 people were confirmed dead after the 11-storey structure collapsed.
Only hours earlier, ten people including five children were killed when a dilapidated apartment block collapsed in New Delhi.
Most of those trapped in the Chennai collapse are believed to be labourers who were working on the site, and sought shelter from heavy rain in the unfinished structure.
It is believed more than 100 people have been killed in similar accidents in the past 12 months in India, where building regulations are often not enforced and developers use sub standard construction materials.
A senior local police officer, Karuna Sagar, says 17 bodies have been pulled from the partially-constructed tower, about 20 kilometres from Chennai, and 21 people have so far been rescued.
