Where will everyone be next year after they graduate? Will they return to their own countries or stay abroad? To find out, I conducted a survey. I asked each of my classmates what he or she plans to do after graduating. After looking over their answers, I realized that there are three types of students in the class: the “Don’t Know” type, the “Go Back Home” type, and the “Stay Abroad” type.
The group with the largest number of student, almost half the class, consists of “Don’t Know” types. When I asked them what they what to do after graduating, they got very serious and said, “I don’t know” or “I haven’t decided yet.” In one case, a student didn’t answer me at all. Another person seemed nervous when I asked. Obviously, the members of this group are worried about their futures.
About a third of the students “Go Back Home” types. They gave a variety of answers, but all the plans they mentioned were back in their home countries, They seemed to be a little homesick. but as soon as they started talking about going home, they cheered up,
The rest of the students-except two that don’t seem to fit any type-are the “Stay Abroad” types. They said that they want to stay in this country or some other English-speaking country. Some wart to work and some want to graduate school here, but no one seems to want to return to live in his or her home country.
In conclusion, the “Go Back Home” and “Stay Abroad” people have clear plans for the future, but what will happen to the “Don’t Know” people? Will they stay here and study more, or go back home to be with their families? I think that most of them will go back. Even if they want to stay, it may not be possible.
