ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS: GENERATORS OF KNOWLEDGE
First and foremost, the idea of this study to the words: academic and research
narrows down to production of scientific knowledge. While the academic context points at
the process of obtaining higher tertiary education knowledge through teaching and
learning, the perception to the sister word research simply refers to the monograph styled
essay of organized investigations carried out by post graduate students required for the
award of degree (thesis and dissertations) alongside with the scholarly studies (scientific
articles) of teaching staff in higher institutions. Hence, in this study, the two words are
synonymous.
