The sometimes prohibitive length of the MMPI has encouraged the development of numerous short forms. However, none is sufficiently reliable or valid to be considered a substitute for the complete administration (Butcher & Hostetler, 1990; Butcher & Williams, 1992; 1. Graharn , 2000).
The only acceptable abbreviated form is to administer all the Items necessary for scoring only the basic validity and standard clinical scales (e.g., the first 370 MMPI-2 items or the first 350 MMPI-A items).
