Screening
During the screening period, information about the baby and the mother will be collected. TcB testing will be done for up to 14 days, using Minolta AirShields
Jaundice Meter JM-103 (Draeger Medical Systems, Inc.,Telford, PA, USA) either in the hospital or in the community. If the TcB is not elevated during the first 14 days
of life, the subject will not be eligible for the study. If at any time during screening the infant’s TcB level rises to within 3 mg/dl below the AAP threshold [27] for high risk infants, inclusion/exclusion criteria will be reviewed. If the infant is eligible, the infant will be recruited for the study. The infant’s mother and/or father will be approached to ask if they are interested in participating in the research study. If they are willing, the consent form for the study will be discussed. If informed consent is given to participate, consent will be documented on the consent
form in writing or thumb printing.
