The results of the correlation anal

The results of the correlation analysis in the manipulation
experiment indicated that the root respiration
rates had significant positive correlations with E at
20 min before the measurement and Tr in all samples
and with Pn at 20 min before the measurement in two of
three samples (Table 1). As Tr changed by approx. 3C
in response to brightening after dark treatment, Rr
showed a positive significant correlation with Tr. While
Tr increased by only 3C, Rr increased sharply from
approx. 2.0 to 8.0 nmol CO2 g1 s1 following lighting.
Generally, Q10 of root respiration is around 2, which is a
10C temperature rise doubles the respiration rate. In
our experiment, the root temperature increased by only
3C, although the root respiration rate increased 4-fold.
The Q10 value calculated from the regression equation
between Tr and Rr indicated an unlikely value of 15.2. In
addition, the root respiration rate during the dark
treatment decreased gradually even though the root
temperature was nearly constant. The root respiration
