A program called Resources International (RI) in Columbus, Ohio, was used as a case study in their study. Mid-Ohio teachers could be linked by it to over 200 people who have developed competence in some international topic. Lessons were developed to include mandated content and skills using the community as context. The involvement in the world helped develop a more favorable curricular context for other materials explicitly teaching local linkages and their implications of citizenship (Remy & Woyach, 1982).
