The NRC (1998) model includes the contribution from the indigenous grain mineral sources, whereas our dietary treatment calculations only used the trace minerals derived solely from the added premix. Because gestation feed intakes were similar for all treatments within parity, there was a lack of individual variation that prevented statistical evaluation, whereas because lactation mineral intakes differed, they were statistically analyzed (Table 9).Calculations indicate that sows fed the NRC treatment diet actually consumed more than enough trace minerals from the premixes as predicted by the NRC (1998) model.
