In summary, we found that the oleaginous yeast Cryptococcus sp. SM5S05 could assimilate glucose to accumulate intracel- lularly a considerable amount of lipid with good lipid content in the cell biomass. The flask batch experiments demon- strated that Cryptococcus sp. SM5S05 had the robust ability to grow in the corncob hydrolysate-based media and to reach a high cell biomass and high lipid productivity in this process. The crude lipid contents of the biomass could be increased with the addition of carbon sources and with the adjustment of the C/N ratio of the culture media. The abundant unsatu- rated fatty acid contents in the crude lipid ensured the high quality of biodiesel. The results obtained in this study were significant for the industrial production of biodiesel using the cell oil from yeasts.
