Nowadays, a polarization reconfigurable antenna, which can provide various polarizations at the same operating frequency has received considerable attention because it has the potential to improve the performances of wireless communication systems. The switchable polarization antenna can be used to mitigate signal fading in mUltipath propagation environments and provide double transmission chanen ls for frequency reuse. It can be applied to multi system operation in order to reduce the number of the required antennas. For RFID application, the switchable polarization antenna can increase an opportunity of communication between RFID reader and tag since they radiate both circular and linear polarizations. For single-fed microstrip patch antennas, a simple method to achieve the polarization switching is the reconfiguring the shape of the main radiation patch and several polarization reconfigurable antennas based on the method have been proposed [1]-[3]. These past works mainly concentrate on the designs related to the switching between circular polarization and linear polarization. However, relatively few designs which can provide switching between circular polarization and linear polarization at frequency 920- 925 MHz are proposed. Based on the same concept, a novel reconfigurable microstrip antenna allowing polarization switching is proposed and carefully examined in this study.
