The first world leader to get Photoshopped on to the back of the woodpecker was Vladimir Putin, but it didn't take long for someone to add Thai prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to the photo.
Drama in the air
On Monday, Martin Le-May was walking with his wife through a park in London when they heard what they called “distressed squawking”.
They looked in the direction of the noise and saw a frightened woodpecker flying near them with a hungry weasel clinging to its back.
Mr Le-May, an amateur photographer, quickly snapped a remarkable shot of the airborne struggle that has now been shared countless times through the mainstream media and the social media.
The story has a happy ending – for the woodpecker. Mr Le-May says the bird landed about 25 metres from them. Possibly distracted by the couple, the weasel let go of its prey and the woodpecker flew to safety in some nearby trees.
