Sakae Krang River is the lifeline of Uthai Thani city and its people. Like in ancient times, there are still many people living on rafts. These floating homes are among the symbols of Uthai Thani, demonstrating how the local people’s lifestyles are still very much linked to the river. They are home to many fishermen, who earn their iving by raising different kinds of fish, particularly gourami, and supply them to restaurants in town.
One of the most memorial happenings that took place here dates back to 1906, when King Rama V visited the province and stayed in Sakae Krang village. The monk Phra Khru Uthai Tham Nithet (Chan) built 2 twin rafts to welcome the King. In return, the King presented the monk several gifts, including a monk's bowl with a pearl-inlaid lid, a stone monk's bowl, a glazed bowl, a sack used when the king visited Europe, a wide-mouth urn, a vase and so forth.
