Fortunately, recent developments are starting to improve matters, on the
domestic front as well as for export-based logistics. The sector is expected to grow
by about 30 % per year. Experts predict that there will be substantial increase in
3PL activities, with more international operators getting involved in moving goods
inside China. It is also felt that China’s liberalization measures are likely to be
sustained and extended. As large 3PLs develop their Chinese networks, they will
create growing pressure for change. Recent studies point to a shift away from
warehousing for storage purposes towards other uses, notably higher-value services,
transhipment and consolidation. Enhanced importance of specialist warehousing
and greater use of information technology are also anticipated (Jones Lang
Lasalle 2007).
