Job summary:
The researcher will be based in our Mathematical and Economic MODelling research group (MAEMOD) in Bangkok with the possibility of spending some time with our collaborators in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
The post-holder will be responsible for learning and using mathematical modelling techniques for the analysis of data from studies of the spread of drug-resistant bacteria from SE Asia. The work will involve both using and writing computer software to analyse DNA sequence and epidemiological data and writing scientific reports.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
Learn mathematical modeling, and relevant biostatistical and bioinformatics techniques.
Analyse epidemiological and sequence data.
Contribute to further developing methodologies for the analysis of epidemiological and sequence data.
Contribute to other methodological projects led by MAEMOD.
Write Scientific reports.
Qualifications & Profile
BSc or other advanced degree in a subject with a strong mathematical component (eg. mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, statistics)
University level calculus
A good understanding of probability
Experience of computer programming
Highly motivated
Interest in applying mathematical techniques to biological systems
Analytical problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, initiative, attention to detail and good at working in a team
Keen on self-development
IELTS equivalent 6.5
