Categorical Imperative: An individual should act as if the choices one makes for oneself could become universal law. You should act so that you treat each individual as an end and never as a mean.
Kant believes that moral force resides in the act itself rather than in the person who acts: an act springs from a sense of duty, even if your character might incline you to act otherwise
Negative duties: not to murder, not to break promises, not to lie
Positive duties: to offer help, be grateful, develop one’s talent
Problem: less concerned about consequences of actions
Kant’s test question: Can the moral act be applied to everyone?
