In order to reduce the heat demand of the process, the ther-
mophilic fermentation and photofermentation are heat-integrated
(Markowski et al., 2009). The effluent discharged from thermo-
philic fermentation is cooled down in a heat exchanger by the
external recycle stream or by make-up water needed to dilute the
inflowing sucrose solution.
