As a part of these initiatives, in the present work,
we describe our attempt of using C. esculenta as a bioagent
in remediating the domestic wastewater in a subsurface
flow (SSF) system. In SSF systems, wastewater flows underneath
and through the plant-rooting media (gravel mostly).
Since the water surface is maintained below the tip of the
gravel media, the problems arising from odors, insect vectors,
or public exposure are minimized
