Bribery of any government official is strictly against Company policy. It is also prohibited by United States law covered under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Chevron prohibits our employees from providing government officials with money or any other item of value in order to obtain or maintain business or to influence any act or decision of any foreign official.
The FCPA broadly defines “foreign official” to mean non-U.S. government official, political candidate, any employee who works for a non-U.S. government-controlled company or any official of a public international organization, such as the United Nations.
Providing a benefit to a “close relative” or a “business associate” of a non-U.S. government official may also present an anticorruption risk as such benefit could be deemed, in certain circumstances, to have been received by the non-U.S. official. Many countries in which Chevron operates have anticorruption laws similar to the FCPA, and the Company complies with all applicable laws
