LESSON 1: ACCOUNTABILITY
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Accountability is a Scriptural principle that is often overlooked by most Christians. It is also an area that most believers are totally ignorant of.
B. Although the word “accountability” isn’t found in the Bible, the principle exists in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
C. Most people are used to accountability in the world as far as their job or personal business (bills, mortgage payments, taxes), but generally think they are exempt from any accountability in the spiritual realms or in their church affairs. They have an attitude that it’s “just between them and God”.
D. Understanding accountability is directly related to an understanding of spiritual authority. Most people who have a problem with accountability also have a problem with principles of spiritual authority.
E. Whether unbelievers know it or not, they too are accountable to God.
I PETER 4:5, speaking about unbelievers, says, “but they shall give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” NAS, also ROMANS 3:19 NAS
F. Besides accountability of unbelievers toward God, there are three main areas of accountability worthy of our attention:
1. Believers to God
2. Leaders to God
3. Believers to Leaders
II. BELIEVERS TO GOD
A. All believers have accountability to God
B. ROMANS 14:12 says, “So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.” NAS
