Christine Benedict has served as an Albany County Legislator since 1993, representing the 27th Legislative District in the Town of Colonie. Her district encompasses most of the west end of the Town of Colonie, and a small portion of the Town of Guilderland.
In her current position as an Albany County Legislator, Christine serves as the Minority Leader. Christine currently serves on the Conservation and Improvement Committee and the Mass Transit Committee.
Christine's public service began in 1980 as a volunteer committee person in the Town of Colonie. She served on the Town Board for the Town of Colonie from 1985 to 1992. She left the Colonie Town Board in 1992 after serving seven years, to pursue her current position as an Albany County Legislator.Christine was born, raised and educated in Albany County. She attended Vincentian Institute High School and earned her Bachelor's Degree at the College of Saint Rose. She also earned her Masters in Public Administration from Marist College in Poughkeepsie.
In addition, Christine has served on several community boards. She has served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Sisters of Albany County, Colonie Youth Advisory Board, The Guilderland YMCA Board of Directors and The Junior League of Albany. She currently serves on the Albany County-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce Partnership Committee; the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce EAC Revolving Loan Committee; and the South Colonie Dollars for Scholars.On behalf of the International Republican Institute, Christine has volunteered her time and traveled to Thailand to promote democracy, encourage and provide assistance for women pursuing an elected political office.
