New products and upscale "healthy" refrigerated juices and drinks pushed the category ahead by 2.6% to $980.6 million in the 12 weeks ended September 7, according to Information Resources, Inc., the Chicago-based market research firm. Apopka, Florida.-based Simply Orange (The Coca-Cola Company) drove much of the gain. Launched nationally in 2003, Simply Orange has become a key player in the refrigerated juice category with a variety of flavors and container sizes. Even in the long declining refrigerated orange juice category, Simply Orange managed to score a 9.9% gain to reach $78.8 million, making it the No. 3 brand behind Tropicana Pure Premium and private label.
