Design and construction
The original project of station was made by V. A. architects and A. A. Vesnin (coauthors S. V. Lyashchenko and S.F. Zebek, with the assistance of E. S. Demchenko). To realize it in the conditions of war it has appeared it is impossible, and the station has been constructed on the changed N. S. Knyazev and A. N. Dushkin's project without the central hall, with two traveling halls and several passes between poles in the southern end face.
After construction by a number of new station "Paveletskaya" of the Ring line, since 1950 reconstruction of station from two-screen in columned on the project close to initial has begun. For reconstruction of station from east end face of "Paveletskaya" - the reconstructed station, ring to the center, the adit for breed unloading has been passed. Further the adit proceeded along a platform axis in both parties: in the first years of reconstruction — to a northern exit as till 1955 works were conducted only there, and then — to the southern exit where works were carried out after 1955. Platform width in reconstruction zones (as a rule within 3 — 6 modern columned sections) decreased to 1,0 — 1,5 m. For passengers the station wasn't closed for one day.
At the first stage lasting 3 years from 1950 to 1953 reconstruction of a northern end face of station was carried out. By the beginning of 1950 the eskalatorny inclination within construction of the combined lobby of stations of Ring and Zamoskvoretsky lines has been already built, and for him even escalators have been ordered N. Dlina of the site reconstructed these years has made only 3 columned sections. He has been open for passengers together with an exit in the combined lobby on February 21, 1953. In the same day there was an opportunity to change on station of the Ring line through the combined lobby. Later the closest to the escalator columned section has been closed up in connection with installation of a station lock.
At the second stage lasting 3 years from 1953 to 1955 reconstruction of a northern half of station from three northern columned sections which are already given to passengers to a northern end face of descent was carried out to transition to the Ring line in the center of station which has been constructed at the same stage. Transition and the reconstructed part of station have opened for passengers on July 30, 1955.
At the third stage lasting 4 years from 1955 to 1959 reconstruction of the southern half of station was carried out. The site of reconstruction was longer and reconstruction lasted slightly longer because of need of use for unloading of breed of the same adit departing from the central part of station. Reconstruction has been complete on April 20, 1959. In the same day the southern descent in transition to station of the Ring line has opened.
In 1959 was planned to continue reconstruction of station, having reconstructed in columned a pilonny site at the southern eskalatorny inclination, but because of need of its closing and creation of problems for passengers have refused reconstruction of this site, and it has remained in the "temporary" look up to now.
