IEEE 802.11 defmes 4 Interframe Spaces (IFS) with different lengths for
prioritized medium access. The following interrelation can
be applied:
SIFS < PIFS < DIFS < EIFS
SIFS is the shortest time interval and a fixed value which
enables a node to switch between transmitting and receiving
mode. It also provides enough time for processing delays,
e.g. encoding. SIFS time defmitions are scenario
independent why we preferred the standard 802.11 SIFS
time intervals in the order of 10 f.!s.
