There are many mixed foods in Korea, besides Bibimbap(비빔밥) that you've just seen from < Dae Jang Geum >. Have you heard of the Korean food 'Gukbap(국밥)'? Gukbap(국밥) is a mixture of rice and soup.
A typical one is Beef Gukbap(국밥). Shall we make Beef Gukbap(국밥) with these ingredients? We put rice into the soup mixed with beef, bracken, radish and other vegetables.
Gukbap(국밥) is known to be a traditional food loved by the general public. You get to feel full right upon gulping down the watery soup with rice. When people were not well supplied with foods, Gukbap(국밥) was the right food for poor people who only had Kimchi(김치) or Namuls cooked greens (나물). It might be for this reason that you can easily find Jangteo Gukbap(장터 국밥) wherever you go around traditional marketplaces es in Korea. In this sense, Gukbap(국밥) as a mixed food is the oldest restaurant food in Korea.
So, what else do we have as mixed foods? Yes, here’s Japchae(잡채), meaning a mixture of different Namuls(나물). Since it uses glass noodles as the main ingredient on top of Namuls(나물), Japchae(잡채) is known for its high nutrition.
Apart from Bibimbap(비빔밥), Gukbap(국밥) and Japchae(잡채), there is one more mixed food that is excellently nutritious. That is Tteokbokki(떡볶이). Have you seen ‘Gungjung-tteokbokki(궁중 떡볶이)’ in < Dae Jang Geum >? Some of the foods from < Dae Jang Geum > are truly gourmet foods that were only available in the royal court. 'Gungjung-tteokbokki(궁중 떡볶이)' is different from the spicy red Tteokbokki(떡볶이) that you can find on the streets in Korea. Instead, it contains various vegetables and is not spicy. For a spicy variation Gochujang was added fully to stimulate appetite, and that is the most common street food, Tteokbokki(떡볶이). In old days, it was enjoyed only in the royal court, but, everyone enjoys Tteokbokki(떡볶이) today. People usually think Korean foods are 'spicy'. It is Tteokbokki(떡볶이) that represents the spicy Korean foods together with Gimchi(김치).
