The Secretariat of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is pleased to learn that you have
been designated by your Government as a participant in the Training Course on Best Practices in
Ocean Acidification Research to be held at the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental
Science, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China, from 19 to 23 October 2015. The purpose of the course
is to train early-career scientists and researchers from IAEA Asian Member States entering the ocean
acidification field, with the ultimate goal being to assist them in setting up pertinent experiments,
avoiding typical pitfalls and ensuring comparability with other studies. The subjects to be covered
include nuclear and isotopic techniques.
The training course will be held in English.
The IAEA will provide you with a round-trip air ticket based on the most direct and economical route
(lowest logical fare in economy class) between the airport nearest your residence and Xiamen, China.
In the case of round trips within Europe a first class rail ticket can be offered instead if desired. You
should immediately notify either the IAEA contact person, Ms Hasti Dessa (H.Dessa@iaea.org),
and/or American Express (AMEX) of any ticket changes or cancellations. If the cancellation takes
place after working hours or during a weekend, the AMEX emergency telephone number on the eticket
(+43 1 2600 23070) should be used. Alternatively, you may elect to receive a travel grant
equivalent to 40%, where the scheduled flight time for the journey in question is seven hours or less
(one way), or 50%, where the scheduled flight time exceeds seven hours (one way) of the lowest full
economy airfare for the journey in question. In such a case you would be fully responsible for making
the necessary travel arrangements and for cancellation costs, if any.
In addition, you will receive a lump sum of €800 for the living expenses, including incidentals,
connected with the training course. This amount has been calculated on the assumption that you will
stay for the total duration of the training course. Should this not be the case, you would be requested to
reimburse the IAEA for the appropriate difference.
It is understood that you are not receiving funds for travel or living expenses from any other source.
