Homologous recombination is a ubiquitous process that plays animportant role in species adaptation and survival. It is responsiblefor increasing genetic diversity in populations by reshuffling genes and preserving genetic integrity by aiding in the repair of damaged genes (Stahl, 1987). Natural in vivo recombination mechanisms,however, usually operate at low efficiencies, eliciting changes ingene structures or functions usually after 10 or more generations
