The percentage of patients who develop invasive fungal infections (IFI) has increased dramatically. Most of these infections occur in patients with hematologic malignancies.This increase is attributed to host defense impairment that an increasing number of infections are being caused by molds. Most are attributed to Aspergillus spp. and
infections have become a cause of death in patients with hematologic malignancies.
