Given small firm owners general lack of time, it is likely that they will need to be highly motivated to undertake any type of HRD interventions. One potential source of motivation would be clear evidence that the enhancement of their managerial capabilities, especially when interacted with key resources, enhance innovation within micro firms, especially hotels, which, in turn enhances the overall performance of these organisations. This will require HRD researchers and practitioners to work closely on an evidence-based programme of research (Rousseau and Barends, 2011). Public-sector assistance is also likely to be needed to help subsidise recommended HRD recommendations to incentivise and motivate micro-manager participation.
