The 20-question staff survey included ratings, yes-or-no questions, numerical estimates, and open-ended questions. After ethical approval, questions were pilot-tested on four staff members who had experience with students with visual impairments. These staff reviewed the questions and offered suggestions that were incorporated into the survey. The final survey included questions about the demographic characteristics of the students (of the proportion of students with disabilities who are visually impaired), accommodations, program practices, and perceived barriers in higher education. The staff members also indicated their province, professional position, and type of institution (college or university). The survey was available online or in a telephone interview. An identical mail survey in French was sent to disability programs at French-speaking institutions.
