X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) was applied to identify the mechanismof chromate uptake fromcopper foams. The studied sample was obtained following the treatment of more than 100 L of test water with a concentration of 100 μg/L Cr(VI) at a pH varying in the range of 6–8. The spectrum was acquired in an Axis Ultra DLD system by KRATOS. A monochromated Al-Ka1 X-ray beam was used as the excitation source and the pass energy was 160 eV for survey scans and 40 eV for high resolution spectra. The spectrum was calibrated in terms of charging-induced shifts by assuming C1s peak (originating fromcarbon surface contamination) was located at 284.6 eV.
