There is lack of evidence and a problem of attribution with regard to this objective. The public health impact of the project was not monitored. Data on sanitary and health conditions of the residents in the basin were collected by the Department of Health only up to 2006 (ICR, p. 35). The extent to which any improvements in the incidence of cases of malaria, dysentery, diarrhea, and typhoid could have been attributed to the project would, in any event, have been difficult to gauge.
