In this study, new biopolymer nanocomposites were prepared by treatment of ESO plasticized PLA modified MMT with FNCs. PLA/ESO–clay nanocomposites have been prepared by incorpo- rating 2% of CDFA-MMT and 3% of both FA-MMT and FHA-MMT. TEM analysis shows that the prepared nanocomposites were intercalated (FA-MMT and FHA-MMT) and intercalated with partially exfoliated types (CDFA-MMT). In addition to their appli- cations in textile industries, automotive and clinical uses, these nanocomposites represent a good candidate to produce disposable packaging because they have good mechanical, thermal properties and processability, and produce from renewable, biodegradable, environmental friendly and easily available raw materials. The sur- factants (FNCs) used in this study for clay modification will reduce the dependence on petroleum-based surfactants.
