At this housewarming ceremony, a stage about five metres long and three metres wide was set up especially for the performance in the compound of the new house. The stage was equipped with stand microphones, two huge speakers, and musical instruments. There were tables and chairs provided for about two hundred guests in front of the stage. During the party, guests first enjoyed a meal and drinks served by the all female kin, neighbours and close friends of the host couple. After the guests had then further chatted for a while, a band of six girls from a nearby town, all costumed in colourful miniskirts, started singing and dancing on the stage, giving a performance that lasted several hours. During the course of this, important guests, such as ex-school teachers, the village headman, and factory managers took turns in giving speeches honouring and blessing the host and hostess from the stage. As the party proceeded, the guests got drunk and more drunk, and few remained sitting at the tables Some jumped up on the stage, and sang through microphones Others were dancing together to the accompaniment of the band in front of or on the stage. All of this continued until midnight.
