CURRENT MARKETING STRATEGIES
The Convention Bureau of the Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) was established (a) to hold international conventions in Korea and to make sure that they run smoothly and efficiently, (b) to collect and exchange data and to conduct surveys pertaining to international conventions, (c) to promote Korea as an ideal international convention site, and (d) to develop Korea’s international convention industry and to train personnel in convention-related businesses (KNTO, 2002). The KCB’s major services are to:
• Assist meeting planners to prepare a competitive and highly attractive
bid and bid presentation.
• Provide a wide range of information and materials on Korea.
• Coordinate site visits for representatives of decision-making bodies.
• Act as a liaison between local contacts and the meeting planners.
• Assist in the selection of suitable convention facilities, accommodations, and other convention suppliers.
• Advise on the planning for upcoming meetings in Korea.
• Assist in promoting Korea to attract as many participants as possible.
• Provide literature, films, and audio-visual materials on tourism and conventions in Korea.
• Provide experienced KNTO staff to run an information desk at the meeting venue.
• Cooperate with international organizations to conduct convention market surveys and to promote international meetings and seminars.
