Carbon steel is widely used in manufacture structural compo-nents such as axles, crankshafts, couplings and gears, because of itsattractive properties such as high strength, good wear resistanceand low cost. Stainless steel, due to its superior corrosion resistanceand good workability, is of great potential in manufacturing indus-try. The implementation of hybrid structures made of carbon steeland stainless steel can combine the advantages of two materials andallow design flexibility, which is full of promise in manufacturingindustry (Sahin (2005)). However, it is a great difficulty to obtainsound dissimilar metal joints between carbon steel and stainlesssteel on account of the differences in chemical compositions andthermophysical properties.
