In this section we investigate our hypothesis that once
mangrove width is under squeeze,i.e. when either the primary
or the secondary dike is too close to the nonvegetated foreshore,
erosion is usually occurring and the health of the mangrove
forest is under stress (see Figure 2 showing an illustrated
schematization). The sections that we have chosen are near the
estuarine inlets, so that sediment availability should not be a
limiting factor. These two systems are found both along the
southeastern coast and the eastern coast.
