Starting with the most favourable option in the waste
management hierarchy, recycling in Romania is still at a very
low level by comparison with the European Union, as it can
be observed in Fig. 8. Over the studied decade, the recycling
rates did not register an overall significant progress, while in
European Union, the figures have increased by 30%. Materials
recycling in Romania represents around 4% of the average
European rate, so one of the focuses of the next national
strategies should be strongly promoting recycling.
