A variation of part-time work is where companies permit selected workers, who are typically older, to split their work locations. Often professionals want to spend time in a better climate, or perhaps have a second home in Florida where they spend six months of the year. Rather than lose a valuable employee who has made a decision to relocate for the winter, companies are finding places for them at both locations. For example, a pharmacist working for a major company might work for six months in New York and six months in Cocoa Beach. Stephen Wing, who oversees the CVS stores, said, "Our older workers tend to be great at customer service and at teaching our younger folks. So it makes sense for us to be flexible and keep them on the job. Home Depot has set up "snowbird" employment programs to retain valuable employees.
