Development of the PEG-NCP
The risk of nosocomial bloodstream PEG-related
infections can be minimised by diligent checking of
the indications, hygienic measures using the correct
materials, thorough follow-up, and education of the
medical and nursing staff (Schwaiger et al, 2013).
With good nursing care, PEG complications can be
avoided or dealt with promptly (Haywood, 2012). The
use of a PEG-NCP helps to monitor early signs of
PEG-related infections and guide nurses toward
specific action plans immediately after the PEG insertion.
