The short term cause of the World War I comes from the assassination of the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, Archuduke Ferdinand by Serb. This leads to the battle proclamation of Austria-Hungary against Serbia. Austria-Hungary asked its alliance, Germany, for help, while Serbia was assisted by Russia, which has the alliance with France and Britain. Thus, the wider war was ignited. Another short-term cause is the conflict of dividing the land taken from Turkey between Austria-Hungary and Serbia backed up by Russia. But, Austria-Hungary was instigated by Germany to spark the war and told them to ignore the negotiation from Russia and Britain. The other short-term cause comes from the uncertainty of Germany about the clear standing point of British to join the war by allying with Russia and Serbia. As for British side, they, however, tried to curb the war by negotiating with the opposite alliance, but Germany refused to accept this offer, but furthered the war via Belgium. Considering to the long-term cause of World War I, during the 1860’s when the Prussia, the subdivided states of Germany, proclaimed the war against their antagonistic France. They could beat France, followed by setting up the new prosperous Germany Empire. Nevertheless, in 1888, Kaiser Wilhelm became the new ruler of Germany. He changed Germany’s previous friendly relationship with Russia and British to aggressive approach, hoping to make Germany a worldwide empire like Britain. Due to this position of Germany, they became the threat in the view of other nations. Later on, in 1987, Germany challenged Britain by building massive navy force, and Britain fiercely reacted to Germany in the same way and was assisted in boosting arms race by Russia and France. The other long-term cause of World War I derived from Germany signed the treaty of alliance with Austria-Hungary in 1879, which made them involved with Russia and France as their enemy by default. Moreover, due to viewing Germany’s policy badly managed, Britain decided to make the alliance with France and Russia against Germany in 1904 and 1907 respectively.
