Death penalty does not deter crime in term that it has no beneficial effect on murder or crime rates and does not make the country any safer. Many people think that abolishing the capital punishment leads to higher crime rates. But, there are many studies do not back this up. Former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno said, “I have inquired for most of my adult life about studies that might show that the death penalty is a deterrent. And I have not seen any research that would substantiate that point.” Wisconsin, a country which has not had the death penalty for 150 years, has a murder rate that is half that of states like Texas and Florida which use the death penalty frequently.
