Safety net bill passed
The National Legislative Assembly has passed a bill calling for the establishment of a state organisation to provide a better social safety net, regardless of nationality or race, authorities said on October 30.
The agency, under the Department of Social Development and Welfare, will ensure equal administration of welfare services including housing, vocational training and health care.
The bill was passed unanimously with 190 supporting votes and is now awaiting formal passage into law, NLA member Somchai Sawangkarn said, adding that the bill will give better protection to underprivileged people.
