The method described by Chu et al [

The method described by Chu et al [17] was applied in this
work to determine the reducing power of freeze-dried extract.
This reducing power was investigated by observing the
transformation of Fe3þ to Fe2þ. The extract was diluted with
distilled water (60e220 mg/mL). The diluted extract (0.5 mL)
was mixed with phosphate buffer (2.5 mL, pH 6.6) and
potassium ferricyanide (2.5 mL, 1% w/w) in a test tube, followed
by incubating in a water bath at 50
C for 30 minutes.
After the tube was removed from the water bath, trichloroacetic
acid (2.5 mL, 10% w/v) was added into the tube and
centrifuged (13,000g, 10 minutes). The supernatant (2.5 mL)
was diluted with distilled water (2.5 mL), and freshly prepared
ferric chloride (0.5 mL, 0.1% w/w) was added. The mixture was
mixed thoroughly and its absorbance was measured at 700nm
using a UVeVIS spectrophotometer.
