Inadequate dietary fiber intake is the most widely accepted
cause of constipation and it is believed that dietary fiber plays
a significant role in the management of constipation at an
average intake of about 18–27 g/day (Mann and Truswell, 2007).
In this regard glucomannan, a non-absorbable fiber gel polysaccharide composing of glucose and mannose, could be a
useful advance in the treatment of chronic constipation in
adult patients.
